The `Boy Toy` logo was to get a Madonna trademark - most frequently seen on a huge belt but shown here in graffiti alongside some Keith Haring doodles - and her manner was influencing a generation of girls to bear arms-full of bangles, bleach their hair, and cut up their Granny`s net curtains to make
clothes.
Three singles that were released from her eponymous debut album, produced in 1983, all hit the Billboard charts. `Madonna` the album produced the singles `Holiday`, then `Borderline` followed by `Lucky Star`.
`
Holiday`, from her self-titled debut album, was Madonna`s first one to hit the Billboard charts in the US. It was released in late 1983 and spent several weeks in the top 100.
Borderline` was released in February of 1984 and sickly in the US charts at number 10 after 3 months of steady climbing. The song`s classic video shows Madonna in the `hood, wearing fluorescent ankle socks, and flirt with everyone.
The music video for `Holiday` was evidently too bad to be released, so performances from TV shows in the US and UK were used instead. The look - cut-off pants and short skirt, midriff showing - was in full bloom.
The third release from `Mary` was `Lucky Star`. It became Madonna`s highest charting single to-date, reaching number 4 and staying on the charts for 16 weeks. Written by Madonna, the song`s chorus is celebrated for incorporating the famous Mother Goose nursery rhyme `Starlight, star bright, first star I see tonight`.
Madonna`s second album, the Niles Rodgers-produced `Like a Virgin`, was released towards the end of 1984. The title track hit number one on the Billboard pop chart in December and made Madonna a family name. Madonna dedicated the album to `all the virgins of the world
The single `Like a Virgin` spent 6 weeks at the top of the pop chart in 1984. Madonna debuted the trail at the MTV Video Music Awards, rolling around on the story in a white wedding dress. The music video was shot in Venice, Italy and partially in New York City.
Back then, Madonna was partly of New York`s East Village club scene, hanging out with the likes of legendary street artist Keith Haring (whose designs are on this ring as good as her jacket) and working at Danceteria, where she performed on level in 1982.
