The signs are open at Quincy's Madonna House. The lights are switched off and the thermostat is low.
"I would wish to go lower but I give to preserve the children's comfort in mind, otherwise I'd take it at 65," said Hicks.
Residents say they're feeling the top of these bad times.
"We wear sweaters, double layers, socks and indoor shoes are a must, lights are flicked off a lot," said Yaismin Cooper.
Cooper has been living at Madonna House for 5 months with her daughter, after getting injured at play and losing her job.
Cooper says she relies on Madonna House for stability while she rebuilds her life.
When we asked her what would occur to her and others should Madonna House close she was at a release for words.
"I really.I don't know. I truly don't love to be true with you."
Its not only residents who would be hit hard, but besides your neighbour or friend at church served at the food pantry.
Hicks says they decline to spring up and end is a final resort.
"If we go out, we're leaving to go out kicking screaming and fighting," said Hicks.
Madonna House is wait for payments from the land that were due six months ago and have submitted a quest for expedited funding for this year's payments.
They are likewise being as belligerent as they can to get funding, by applying for grant money and writing letters for private donations.
